Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2009 Single Malt Whisky
70cl, 50% abv
This expression was distilled using only grain grown on farms on Islay. These farms are centrally located on the island, providing a very different terroir to the wild maritime location of the 2007 release from Rockside. The Bruichladdich Islay Barley series celebrates the subtlety of terroir and Bruichladdich's commitment to their Islay DNA.! This has great structure. Firm, muscular and more complex than expected. Several layers of flavour are melding into a barley sugar and oak mellowed texture while drifting over sweet kiln-dried barley. The senses are singing with joy as it zings over the palate leaving no doubt as to the island of its birth.
Nose: White grapes and orchard fruits (a touch of stewed plum too), herbaceous mint and vanilla.
Palate: Fresh waffles with apple slices and a generous pouring of syrup. Oak builds up, as does a floral malt.
Finish: Warming with continued golden cereals.
