anCnoc Peaty Range

As the name suggests; this is a range of whisky expressions from anCnoc which have a lofty peat content. We have just received stock of the latest bottling in the range; Cutter.

anCnoc Peaty Range

anCnoc Cutter Single Malt Whisky is the fourth expression in the anCnoc Peaty Range limited edition. It has the highest phenol p.p.m. (parts per million) in the current range – 20.5 p.p.m. A cutter is a hand tool used to cut peat from less wet, shallower peat bogs. This results in the peat being drier and more easily burnt, producing a whisky with medium – heavy smokiness.

anCnoc Flaughter Single Malt Whisky is named after the Flaughter spade which is used to remove the top layer of peat. This layer is richer, more rooty and produces more reek. This gives a heavier, smokier flavour to the whisky, in this case, with a p.p.m. of 14.8. A lovely, intense dram.

anCnoc Rutter Single Malt Whisky is named after the Rutter spade which is used to size and separate the peat blocks producing a turf that is slow burning. This peat creates less reek and therefore gives the whisky a more fragrant smokiness, in this case, with a p.p.m. of 11.0.

anCnoc Tushkar Single Malt Whisky is named after the Tushkar spade which has a long blade that cuts down through the peat, producing a turf with a medium to slow burn. This peat creates and adds a medium to complex, but medium smokiness to the whisky, in this case with a p.p.m. of 15.0. Sadly, “Tushkar” is only available for purchase in Sweden – lucky Scandinavians!

anCnoc is one of our favourite distilleries. Forward thinking management and clever marketing have produced some really great expressions and some lovely collaborations. To keep up with their developments, you may want to follow the anCnoc blog. We look forward to their next release – it will no doubt be very good.
