Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 2

Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 2 has just been released by The Balvenie Distillery. This fine whisky from Tun 1509, has been created once again by The Balvenie’s long serving and revered Malt Master; David Stewart.

To produce this Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 2, David Stewart selected a total of 32 casks to marry together to create this second batch from the (now) famous 1509 Tun – the successor to Tun 1401; which itself produced some of the finest Balvenies of recent years. Of the casks used, 23 were traditional American oak casks and 9 were European oak sherry casks. Each one of these casks were from the Balvenie Distillery’s precious aged whisky stocks. All 32 casks were transferred to Tun 1509, which sits within The Balvenie’s famous Warehouse 24. The whiskies were married together in Tun 1509 for several months before David Stewart decided they were ready for bottling. This process married the different whiskies together to produce Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 2; a beautiful Balvenie whisky that is testimony to the quality of the aged whiskies used and the cask selection process.Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 2

Official taste notes from Balvenie describe this expression as luscious with aromas of honey, orange peel, sweet oak vanilla and a delicate ginger spiciness. To taste it is richly sweet, combining elegant honey with tangy citrus and gentle vanilla, overlain with subtle notes of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. It has a worthy, long and rewarding finish.

As with Batch 1, Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 2 comes beautifully packaged with details of each of the casks used in the marrying process to create this expression.

It has a robust abv of 50.3%, which is up on its predecessor’s 47.1% abv.

We are expecting a very limited supply of Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 2 into our stocks this week. Please contact us if you’d like a bottle; please note – demand for this expression is outstripping supply. However, if you don’t ask, you don’t get! Slainte.
