Balvenie Tun 1509 Whisky now available from Whisky Please; stocks won’t last long!

We are excited to have been given an allocation of the very much anticipated anticipated whisky. This fine expression from Balvenie was released in late September 2014. Balvenie Tun 1509 is the successor to the much lauded Balvenie Tun 1401; a revered spirit if ever there was one.

It was first launched as a no age statement expression in 2011 and was Balvenie Tun 1509only available from the distillery. Additional batches were subsequently released to different global markets twice a year thereafter.

The exclusivity and relative rarity of 1401 earned the series a cult following and some bottles now sell for up to five times their value on the secondary market.

William Grant has chosen to suspend the 1401 series after nine releases, as its production had become too impractical as the press releases indicate. With a capacity of some 2,000 litres, Tun 1401 was considered too small by William Grant to meet the global demands of whisky consumers. The solution was to build Balvenie Tun 1509 which holds four times as much liquid as Balvenie Tun 1401.

Balvenie Whisky

To create the first batch, David Stewart, Balvenie’s Master Distiller, carefully hand selected 42 of the finest casks available. There were 35 traditional American oak barrels and 7 European oak sherry butts selected from the Balvenie Distillery’s precious aged stocks. All these casks were transferred to Balvenie Tun 1509 (which sits in Warehouse 24), for several months before bottling. This is a rare interpretation of the marrying process and allows all 42 casks to come together to create a unique expression of The Balvenie that’s greater than the sum of its constituent parts.

Demand for this expression is high and we have sold out our first allocation of Balvenie Tun 1509. We will be getting more into stock in the coming weeks and suggest that if you are looking for a Balvenie Tun 1509, you e-mail us and note your interest. We will then endeavour to secure a bottle for you.
