Single Malt Whisky - Highland Whisky Region

Single Malt Whisky – Highland Region

Highland region single malt whiskies are often looked on as being large powerful whiskies. They are sometimes noted as being peaty and smoky and often sweet and honey rich. It is such a large and diverse region which makes it almost impossible to be specific when categorising Highland whiskies.

Some of the most famous whisky distilleries to be found in the Highland whisky region are Glenmorangie, Dalmore, Dalwhinnie, Glengoyne, Old Pulteney, Tomatin, Tullibardine, Ardmore , Macallan and Aberfeldy  – to name but a few. To view the Highland distilleries at Whisky Please click Highland Distilleries . Here you will be taken to a section of our website featuring the most prominent whisky distilleries in the Highland region of  Scotland. Whilst there, have a look at how the appearance of these single malt distilleries vary. They differ from the quaint and romantic buildings like Balblair Single Malt Whisky Distillery and Speyburn to the more industrialised appearance of Tomatin Single Malt Whisky Distillery and The Ben Nevis Single Malt Whisky Distillery. Whatever their appearance, though, these distilleries produce some of the very best single malt whiskies you will ever experience.

It is interesting to note that by the  Scottish Whisky Regulations, the “Speyside” designation for single malt whisky can only be used by whisky distilleries in certain wards. This does not include The Macallan’s home of Craigellachie in Moray. Despite this ruling, the whisky authorities notably consider The Macallan as a Speyside Single Malt Whisky. On bottles of  The Macallan Single Malt Whisky, it can be seen that it is indicated on the labels that it is indeed a “Highland Single Malt”. Moreover, the website for the brand states that the stills for The Macallan are “the smallest on Speyside”, thereby placing the heart of Macallan production in the Speyside whisky region.
