Monthly Malt – January 2015

For the month of January 2015, our “Monthly Malt” features two products from the Speyside Distillery; Spey Royal Choice and Spey Chairman’s Choice.

These are two very fine single malt whiskies that come beautifully packaged and with a certificate of authenticity included.

monthly maltThe “Royal Choice” is a premium expression and has an interesting story behind it. Upon Lord Byron’s marriage in 1815 to Ms. Annabella Milbanke in County Durham, he gifted a cask of Spey whisky to King George III. The Spey Royal Choice, was produced exclusively under licence benefitting the charity Historic Royal Palaces. The bottle features the Tower of London on the individually numbered label. The whisky is presented in a beautiful wooden box with a certificate verifying the historic royal connection with Spey Single Malt Whisky, dating back to the reign of King George III.

John and Robert Harvey started Harvey’s of Edinburgh in 1770 and it was on Christmas Day in 1787 that John Harvey personally selected a whisky to be consumed only by family on that day. John Harvey called this exclusive and secret family whisky “Chairman’s Choice”. Harvey’s of Edinburgh bought Speyside Distillery in 2012 and subsequently released “Chairman’s Choice” which is the expression that is represented here.

Our Monthly Malt changes every month (!) and we showcase quirky expressions, great deals, whisky bundles and anything that is unusual and of whisky interest. Please look at our Monthly Malt section regularly as we’re sure there will be something there most months to interest most people. We regularly feature “exclusives” in our monthly malt section – we are the only online retailer of The Wolf of Badenoch which is an expression dear to our hearts and one that we sold a terrific amount of on the run up to Christmas just past.
